The 1st MOU Journalist Jan Creutzenberg
Jan is majoring in Theatre Studies at Freie Universität Berlin and is currently working on his M.A. thesis about Pansori performances. He first came into contact with Korean matters four years ago when he stayed in a Korean-run youth hostel in Paris. There he met young travelers from Korea who introduced him to the customs and the culture of their home country. An essay about this encounter won Jan a one-week-trip to Korea -- including a visit to the DMZ -- that further sparkled his interest.
Subsequently Jan began to learn the Korean language and focused his studies on Korean theatre and inter-Korean relations. He is especially interested in cultural aspects of unifications politics and the different discourses that surround them -- the ways North Korea presents itself to the world and, reciprocally, how the "undiscovered country" is represented in literature, art and the media. Since two years, Jan regularly writes for OhmyNews about North, South and inter-Korean topics.
